One of the more well-known cafes in Singapore, Melbourne-inspired Tolido's Espresso Nook serves up artisan coffee and delectable all-day breakfast. Think Truffle Mushroom Cream Croissant, Avocado Bruschetta, Prawn Laksa Pasta, Rosti with Cheesy Sausage and more. #3 Habitat Coffee

From salads, sandwiches, pastas to most vitally, brunch, Habitat Coffee does it all. The local cafe shifted out of its previous homeground at Upper Thomson in 2011 and it has settled in nicely into the Jalan Besar neighbourhood. The Pulled Pork Benedict s is their play on the traditional benedict, with slow-cooked pork shoulder, green apple shavings and homemade citrus hollandaise sauce topping buttered brioche toast. The Truffled Scrambled & Salmon Eggs is another house favourite, with scrambled eggs infused with white truffle, grilled salmon fillet, sourdough toast and sour cream.

#4 Pacto by Parchmen

A stone's throw away from Lavender MRT, Pacto by Parchmen is located within Jalan Besar CC, serving up artisanal teas, coffee as well as light mains, pastries and ice cream. If you're here early in the day, breakfast items like the Chicken Wrap and Tuna Croissant will fill you up. After noon, you have options such as the Luncheon Meat Burger or Jackfruit Pork Burger. #5 Oberstrasse

A common street name in German-speaking towns, Oberstrasse is also the street in Switzerland where the cafe's owner met his girlfriend. A good selection of Western appetisers, mains, and pastas are available here, with a section of the menu dedicated to Rosti. The Breakfast Rosti which comprises fennel rosti served with avocado, poached eggs, hollandaise sauce and mesclun salad is truly a breakfast of champions. While the Farmer's Rosti which is served with a veal bratwurst and sunny-side up is also not to be missed!

#6 Brawn & Brains

Brawn & Brains is bigger and better with their outlet at Hamilton Road in Jalan Besar. With a carefully curated selection of roasted coffee, they are no stranger to coffee lovers. Their special house-blend cold brews remain as delicious as always. Steeped for 12-18 hours and slightly sweetened, their White Cold Brew dishes out bold notes of chocolate and nuts. They also have a selection of bites from bowls to open-faced toasts, sourdough pizzas and flatbreads!

Despite its name, Antea Social provides a cosy and tranquil space where you can relax and catch up with friends over a cup of tea. Bringing together old and new traditions, their signature is the Oolong collection which is primarily fruit and floral-based, and uses a special tea-making method that involves a two-month-long drying process. You’ll also find green, black, pu erh, and even caffeine-free blends, as well as a selection of cakes to go along with your tea!

At Holy Cow Creamery, enjoy delicious ice cream concocted in their very own kitchen, paired with crisp waffles. Located between Bugis and Lavender MRT Station, Zerah Coffee Roasters provides the ultimate bean-to-cup experience. The beans are first sourced from various parts of the world before they’re roasted in-house. The cafe only serves coffee at the moment, and if you like what you’re having you can also buy the beans off the shelves!

#11 Butter Studio

Love cakes and pastries? Butter Studio is Halal-certified and the recipes were adapted from the owner’s grandmother. One of the signatures here is the Ispahan (Lychee Rose Cake) which is tender and moist, complemented by the scent of rose and sweetness of lychee. Other wonderful pastries to try include the Gula Melaka cupcake, Nutella Tart and Speculoos Cookie Butter Tart. If you have an upcoming event, it’s worth noting that Butter Studio also does amazing dessert tables!

#12 Asylum Coffeehouse

Nestled in an iconic blue and red heritage shophouse along Jalan Besar, Asylum Coffeehouse serves as a home away from home for guests to escape the hustle and bustle of the world. It serves up its very own Espresso blend, Keluak, which has dominant chocolate, nutty and earthy notes and was inspired by the Peranakan dish. Weekly limited speciality beans are also available for pour-overs.

#13 Sweet Cheeks

Need an ice cold treat after a hot afternoon exploring the neighbourhood? Sweet Cheeks serves coffee and handcrafted gelato, churned daily in small batches. The flavours here were inspired by the founders’ overseas travels, like Ricotta with Pistachio & Lemoncurd with Speculoos from travels to Italy, Cinnamon Brown Bread from the streets of Ireland and Coconut Mango, and Mango Sticky rice in Thailand. The waffle here is also well executed and fragrant, being light and airy on the inside and with a nice, golden-brown crispy edge on the surface.

Helmed by pastry chef Wythe Ng who used to work at Keong Saik Bakery and Bakery Brera, For something classic, go for their signature Kouign Amann sprinkled with Himalayan sea salt. Or, try their yummy croissants which are double-baked and come with flavourful. buttery aroma. Expect creative flavours such as Hojicha Mochi Croissant, Burnt Cheese Croissant as well as its signature Bo Bo Cha Cha Croissant, which is made with a layer of purple sweet potato, yam and coconut mochi!

What was once a tiny NTU stand has grown into a modest bakery that serves up Instagrammable pies. They are available in full size as well as mini pies which are perfect for a midday snack. The menu gets rotated frequently and the flavours for the day are subject to availability. Whether you go for a sweet pie or a savoury pie, all come with flaky, buttery crust that is oh-so-satisfying.

#19 The Lunar Rabbit Boulangerie

The Lunar Rabbit Boulangerie specialises in viennoiserie – the ‘bridge’ between pâtisserie and French bread. Expect up to 13 types of Viennoiserie every day from croissants, danishes and brioches. Aside from offering classic French pastries, owner Elaine also experiments with different flavours and combinations to create bakes unique to her bakery. The dough used here is also fermented for a minimum of three days to bring out the best flavour!
