Treat Yourself With These 20 Basque Burnt Cheesecake in Singapor

You’ve probably seen images of this treat on your Instagram feed – a creamy, gooey cheesecake crowned with a beautifully burnt top. While the burnt cheesecake isn’t a new creation and it gained major traction back in 2020 circuit breaker period, numerous restaurants, cafes and bakers have since jumped on the bandwagon to put this trendy food item on their menus. We’ve rounded up some of the top spots where you can get your hands on the basque burnt cheesecake in Singapore!

#1 Keong Saik Bakery

We love Keong Saik Bakery for its old-school pastries with a modern twist. But you know what else they're good at? That's right, burnt cheesecakes. Aside from the original Burnt Cheesecake, they also serve up seasonal creative spins like the Attap Chee Rose Cheesecake. While you’re at it, make sure to try other yummy creations like the new Quattro Matcha, or Seashore 2.0 which features sea salt butterfly pea mousse, butterfly pea whipped ganache with earl grey cheesecake and earl grey shortbread cookie base!

#2 Bakery Brera

If there was an award for the best-looking burnt cheesecake in town, Bakery Brera will definitely take the cake (pun intended) with its burnt and glazed top.  What we also love is the holy trinity line-up of original, hojicha and mixed berries burnt cheesecakes that are freshly made daily using three types of cheeses. These slices of yumminess are so popular and highly coveted, they sell out just about every day.

#3 TXA Gastrobar

Nestled within The Alkaff Mansion is home to Singapore’s first pintxo bar from the Basque region. Specialising in bite-sized nibbles and great small plates, their Original Burnt Cheesecake – or as they call it Spanish, the Tarta De Queso "La Vina" – follows the original recipe as it was first created in San Sebastian. The result is a cake that is smooth, creamy and fluffy all at once, without being cloyingly sweet.

Note: TXA Gastrobar is currently undergoing a makeover, and we’re excited to see what’s in store!

#4 Olivia Restaurant & Lounge

Just a stone’s throw away from Keong Saik Bakery is Olivia Restaurant & Lounge. Olivia’s Creamy Homemade Cheesecake is one of the most popular items on their dessert menu. Unlike most cheesecakes out there, it uses not just normal cream cheese, but also blue cheese and an almond sable base! Unlike other cheesecakes on this list, the cheesecake here has a molten centre which dramatically melts and floods the plate.

#5 Tipsy Penguin

Previously named the Accidental Cheesecake, if the Burnt Cheesecake at Tipsy Penguin was really an accident, then we're so glad it happened! This dessert is luscious, rich and velvety, jiggly and burnt around the edges. It is also served with a scoop of ice cream, which might be unusual, but surprisingly complemented the cheesecake well. Depending on where you live, you might have to travel some ways for it, but we promise you it will be well worth it!

#6 Cat & The Fiddle

This cafe is well-known for their Fickle Feline 2.0 , where you get to try an assortment of various cheesecake flavours. Their Charred Eclipse cheesecake is also an apt name for a burnt cheesecake. The cake is half baked, and made with a blend of cream cheese and Martabak cheese, which is a special type of Indonesian cheddar cheese that has a rich yet salty tang. The result is a scrumptious cheesecake that is both sweet and savoury, full of fabulous flavours and textures!

You’ll find single-origin tea leaves, sourced directly from farms in China, Taiwan, and Sri Lanka, at Teaspoon of Love. But this online tea store also doubles up as a bakery and it uses its curated blends to create tea-infused treats. One of its creations is a trendy Da Hong Pao Burnt Cheesecake, which uses roasted oolong tea sourced from the mountains in Fujian. The result is a creamy dessert infused with floral, woody notes that make it all too easy to finish the whole cake in one sitting!

#8 GRUB

GRUB specialises in Singaporean flavours with a Japanese twist, and a standout is their Kaya Burnt Cheesecake. If you’d like to venture further afield from the regular burnt cheesecake, this coconut and pandan-flavoured version makes for a fragrant treat. Their original Basque Burnt Cheesecake is just as drool-worthy, with a flavour that leans towards the savoury side. A nice change as many cheesecakes tend to be overly sweet!

What started as a home baking hobby has since evolved into a must-try bakery. While halal-certified Fluff Bakery is super popular for their wide range of unique cupcake flavours, the store also does a wicked Basque burnt cheesecake that’s become their signature. It’s got just the right amount of custard-like ooze from the centre. Even though they also use only one type of cheese, it’s surprising how dense the cheesecake is!

Driven by her love for baking, ex-primary school teacher Amrita made the leap into full-time cake making – and lucky for us she did! Topped with a variety of seasonal berries and flowers, the Berried Burnt Cheesecake is not only a feast for your tummies but also your eyes. If nothing tops the classic for you, go for the Naked Burnt Cheesecake. Baked at high temperature to get its deeply caramelised top and creamy centre, her cheesecakes are for those who like it a little less oozy.

When you cut into it, you’ll find a creamy, cheesy centre that’s shamelessly rich!
